Good morning, everyone. It's nice to be back although I'm not a carrier for all sorts of exotic diseases that I picked up on the flight home. When did TSA start requiring ID, metal detector, and a positive leprosy exam to board?
Anyway, I am back and let's talk a bit about last week. For the most part, I think CJ did a vastly superior job to what I do here. I disagree strongly on the post deletion bit and, just between the two of us, the CJ responsible for deleting it has admitted he probably overstepped a bit since both deleted posts were under the commenters' real names and they were generally thoughtful comments, even if a bit pointed, and certainly not the sort of anonymous trolling we try to keep off here. I hope both guys will accept our apologies, since I consider them both to be among my favorite commenters (or commenters turned editors, as the case may be), and I like them both on a personal level.
Speaking of CJ, there are currently a number of guys with at least theoretical access to the CJ account. They're all good friends and favorites of mine, and probably favorites of yours (they have something like a dozen COTY/COTFs between them), although I think one has been by far the most active. They've done such a good job that I hope they'll become a full-time feature for this balog if it is to continue because, as Shitehawk warned me when I started this venture as anything other than the stupid joke it was the first night, it is actually tiring me out (which is incredible considering how little thought and effort I put into it). Particularly, since it's always been under my own name. So, with a little luck, last week was a preview of the future of this magical playground.
We cross the 100,000 visitor line this week, in just a hair over three months of operation. Maybe that private venture capital firm will acquire us instead of Spin. I'll take $5, if anyone is interested.
Cheers.

This guy has a very interesting definition of the word "necessary."
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing. It seems like any time someone makes a joke that they label as "necessary" or "obligatory," it almost never is.
DeleteAwful.
DeleteYeah, that was definitely not necessary. But, playing devil's advocate: at least the guy made that picture anew for posting on Deadspin, unlike most "obligatory" posts consisting entirely of a Simpsons clip from 1998.
DeleteThat's a fair point. In fact, I wouldn't have brought it up at all if he hadn't claimed it was necessary.
DeleteIf you have to say that something is necessary - particularly a comment on the internet - it probably isn't.
Just so I'm not accused of anything, I am going on record that I have no access to the CJ account.
ReplyDeleteBecause if I did, I would have deleted basically every post but mine. We've got standards here, you know.
Funny you said that, because I almost felt to point out exactly that above. You're doing great work over at RaysismistheRaysismiateRaysismtard.blogspot.raysism.RAYSISM, by the way.
DeleteI don't have access to the account, but if I did:
DeleteI'd have an all comment removed day. That'd be fun.
I'd do a post every 30 seconds for an hour.
I'd do a guess her muff post, then link to Goatse.
I just made a fucking strange comment on the Hulk post. I don't know what came over me. Please tell me if I should never do that again.
ReplyDeleteAt the very least you didn't spell vacillations as vaccinations.
DeleteIt's beautiful, and a melancholy look at the future of America.
DeleteAldous Huxley comments on Deadspin!
DeleteThanks for the apology. Does this mean I get my $99 fee to use the website refunded? Oh, shit. I wasn't supposed to tell everyone that I got that low price, was I? Sorry IMG.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words, IMG. But you're not going anywhere. Your baby needs its familiar teats.
ReplyDeleteHey, it's funny you should mention health care.....

Grantland trashes Jezebel commenters:

This sidwalk post on Gawker, I think, is about to turn into a cesspool:
ReplyDeletehttp://gawker.com/5902326/please-dont-stand-in-the-walkway
I'd much rather read Drew's take on that perfectly legitimate topic.
DeleteIt IS a legitimate topic. I think the combination of Hamilton Nolan's occasionally insufferable writing along with the general insufferableness of most Gawker commentors, however, is going to make this look much more terrible than it ought to be. Ooh! Look at me! I live in New York City! I'm so much more different than the rest of you Americans! /rant
DeleteI wouldn't be surprised if we see that in the next couple hours.
DeleteWhat if everyone who stopped in the middle of a walkway was black?
Delete/never gets old!
I feel like my humor was really lost on them.
DeleteHoly shit, I love this article. I just hearted Hamilton Nolan. In my head, at least.
DeleteUnderneath the same sky even though you're not close by
ReplyDeleteFeels just like we're right beside each other
Even though we're far apart our friendship fills my heart
It's so good to know we're under the same sky
Every kind of game takes two, I can't play without you
I guess I better put my ball away now
Even bouncing is not as funny when you can't annoy your buddy
I'd fix things if I just could figure out how
Damn you.
DeleteBristolmetrics is up...looks like it's time to dust off my killer Bristol Palin joke.
ReplyDeleteRIP Commenting Response Etiquette.
ReplyDeleteOn a related note, while both jokes made reference to the fact that concussions can leave you sensitive to light...I didn't steal my joke from The Onion...or the hundreds of other light-related jokes made about concussions or migraines over the years.

ReplyDeleteThat was weak, and didn't even really make sense. Let's try to at least be constructive, and remember kids, if you're going to bash someone, have the balls to use your real name.
DeleteYour real FAKE name that is.
DeleteI like this Orange and Palindromic fellow.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up. I must have just missed that while staring at the screen for 10 minutes trying to come up with an Emma Frost / January Jones zinger.
DeleteHe's had some good ones over the last however long he's been commenting.
DeleteAnyone know what happened to Rubio (for her pleasure)?

ReplyDeleteI'd remove you if I could.
DeleteSbyV8 is right...come on man. We gotta get past this shit.
DeletePerhaps I can be of assistance.
DeleteYou might as well keep cleaning and get that Bon Jovi one up there too.
