MKM Open Thread (Feb 26, 2012)

Welcome to your MKM Blog open thread for February 26, 2012, the day you realized that his Big Lebowski character is by far the least creepy you have ever seen Jeff Bridges.

Hey everyone, let's have a good day.  I'm on a bunch of flights and stuff today so don't expect much from me today, and limited posting this week.

What?  I owe you nothing.  Nothing!

Here's a Youtube clip anyway, you ungrateful bastards.

  1. POINT OF ORDER: Again, having "Tonight Show" daydreams while glue-sniffing in the stairwell does NOT count as "being on flights."

    1. Your honor, these charges are outrageous. My client was not, and has never, sniffed glue. He was simply eating paste while mixing bleach and ammonia. NOT GUILTY.

  2. Continuing yesterday's argument, I personally believe Al Capone was WAY more gangster than Dutch Schultz.

Good thing Chamomiles Davis almost never comes around any more.

Ever make a joke and then come up with a much better way to say it exactly 15.01 minutes later? My "Pred assessors" pun deserves so much more.

  4. I'd just like to take a minute to bring the hangover discussion from yesterday full circle.

I am only 25, but days like today make me feel like I'm 40. Every time I black out, I am pretty much guaranteed to feel it for the next two days. Three years ago, I could bounce back from something like this within 3-4 hours. Instead, I am laying on my couch, hating my life, and drinking water to try to rid myself of the shakes.

Like everybody else who has ever been hungover, I'm in the booze-blues phase of the hangover where I am forced to question whether or not I even enjoy drinking anymore. (Here's a hint, the answer this morning is "no") Over the last year, I have transitioned from going out hard twice a weekend to going out maybe once a month, and causally drinking a lot more on the couch.

Many of you were talking about how this only gets worse with age, but I don't know how that's possible. I feel like this has to be as bad as it's going to get. I know that settling down is a part of growing up, but I never realized that the primary reason that people settle down is because their bodies won't let them have fun anymore. This is horrible. Thanks for listening.

    1. It doesn't necessarily get worse than what you're describing, it's just more frequent. Like 100% frequent. 25 is too young though. For me, it was pretty sudden at age 27. I could still humiliate myself with no consequences at 25

    2. "Every time I black out... "

That's usually leads to hangovers. Anyway, there came a stage in my life that the great time was not worth the hangover. I just settle for good times now. And I drink tons of water while I'm boozing, even with beer. I think you need more hydration the older you get.

    3. What fat-l said. Water every third drink, water and Advil before bed. You's good like beechwood.

    4. Except for the mid-sleep acid reflux. But that's a story... for ANOTHER Sunday.

I hear ya on the heartburn. If I drink more than 3 or so glasses of wine in a night, I'm almost guaranteed to be waking up for some Tums around 4am.

    6. Two Words: Milk Thistle. Take a couple capsules about two hours before your first drink and it will greatly reduce your hangover or outright eliminate it. Best advice I have ever received.......

Thanks for your explanation of why you laughed at that joke! Your thoughts are invaluable.
