MKM Open Thread (Feb 3-5 2012)

Welcome to your own MKM Open Thread for the weekend of February 3, 2012, the point in history that  Eli Manning finally surpassed his older brother Peyton, according to a newspaper article that my mother cannot admit she just misunderstood.

Happy Friday, everyone.  I want to thank for everyone who expressed their concern or derision last night, I am feeling much better now.  Anyway, this will serve as your open thread for Friday and the weekend.  I know what you're thinking: why do we need an open thread for a weekend that will inevitably consist of  nothing but open threads?  What am I?  Kreskin.  It's here if you need it (you do).  Stop looking a gift horse in the mouth, you non-blog-contributing detritus.

Anyway, thanks for a fun week.  Enjoy the Super Bowl, including the surprise of all those new commercials, which your co-workers have been forwarding you non-stop since last week (the Seinfeld one really is quite good).  Cheers!

  1. I was whining about the 6-20 inches forecast for snow last night, looks like we are on the 20 inches path. I had to look outside, obviously, to make this decision. And, then, being me, got mad about stuff. Both my neighbors have American flags up. Yay, go America. But you aren't supposed to fly an American flag in bad weather or dark or all the other rules that mostly only Boy Scouts know.
    Seriously.

  3. Hey Mike, love the blog. I just wanted to know what you thought about the fights tomorrow night and whether you had talked to anyone about getting an open thread, if you had a write-up planned, all that kind of good stuff. I'm sure you've got that all taken care of, so I won't be mad if you just ignore this. Okay, bye.

    1. Here's an MKM Blog top tip: when you want to edit out a picture, edit it to a picture of plain white background. It looks like nothing was ever there.

    2. That's a good idea. Also a good idea is never trying a picture joke. [For me only, everyone else have at it]

    3. Giving up on picture jokes made me decide not to use a picture here. I think this is the one time my comment actually would have been better with a picture, instead of forcing people to click through to IMDB:

      my points:

      1. Never give up
      2. Believe in yourself
      3. Believe in your dreams!

  5. You cook it? Wow, you have way more patience than me. I just eat it right from the bag and call it al dente extreme.

    1. The Greg Oden article about the surgery on the other knee.

So, at first we tried the left. Then the right. Then the left again. We don't know where to tuck it.

    2. I'm probably not the judge you had in mind, but everyone seems to be out for the weekend.

I don't know that the surgery angle is so fresh that it overcomes the Oden's penis meme albatross hanging around the joke. I'm actually not sure - is the "other knee" framed kind of like a third leg thing? If so, then reading between the lines, he's having surgery on his penis, why is it being tucked anywhere?

I can't make heads or tails of it, which is a problem I have even with very well-received jokes. Regardless, I think a meme-y joke has to be that much better.

  7. So a lot of times I like commenting. Even when it's a little slow, I always have a lot of fun. And don't get me wrong, mostly it's always laugh out loud in the comments. Now and then I think, "man, I could have done that joke better" but who am I to say what's right and wrong? Commenting is an art, right? And just like everything, practice makes perfect. Now of course there are lines that seemed to get crossed, but everyone has different tastes, so I can't tell someone else what's offensive. Even though my brain might not like a dead kid joke, others might find the humor in it. And that's okay. That's what's great about commenting, there are many ways it can go. Although some might find rape jokes funny, I usually don't. Commenting makes me feel good when I'm down, so I do thank everyone for that. Often, actually, when I need a pick me up, I just head over to the threads for a laugh. Coincidentally, I make myself laugh a lot, even if nobody else laughs at my jokes. Keep killing it, you magnificent bastards.
