MKM Open Thread (Mar. 10, 2012)

Welcome to your MKM Blog open thread for March 10, 2012, the day the Washington Redskins officially changed their slogan to "fuck it, what do we have to lose?"

Good morning, everyone.  Hope you're all enjoying a lovely Saturday.

So, the comments.  Please be nice while I figure out a good solution.  Give me a few days.  I'm busy.  I don't want to restrict free commenting, I don't want people here to never be able to make fun of a bad comment, but I do want to be rid of "fuck that guy, he sucks."  Unless you're talking about Bullet Tooth Tony.

I am such a fucking hypocrite.

Anyway, Youtube to the rescue!

Might hit up the strip club after lunch, those daytime skeezoids are usually down to make some extra money, know what I'm sayin'?

  6. Comment quantity's clearly down. Star those marginally funny commenters, thus giving them an incentive to keep coming back and get better. If they don't improve, just have the ninja kill them. Trust me, it's no fun to make jokes for months on end and realize you're no closer to getting some of that bling.

    1. It takes time, though. I spent the entirety of 2011 as an unstarred commenter, and in retrospect, it was absolutely the right thing for me. If I had been starred right away, I probably wouldn't have been as determined to grow as a commenter, and would have continued to throw my "C-D" level jokes around without thinking twice.

I agree that it can be demoralizing if you don't receive any recognition for quite some time, but on the same note, when you do get promotions/+1s from established commenters, it makes it all the better. As long as the vets around here continue to encourage the unstarred guys - something I think everyone does a great job of - the good ones will stick around, and when they do get their stars, it will be even more rewarding for them.

Of course, they can always just throw their marginal shit at one of Drew's posts and be starred in a week or two if they want, either way works.

if a star's what you want, post a youtube clip of a ncaa basketball highlight and wait for the postman.
