MKM Open Thread (Apr. 20, 2012)

Welcome to your MKM Blog open thread for Friday, April 20, 2012 ... ohmigod, it's 4/20, y'all.  See you all at the Phil Lesh show.

Hey, everyone.  Hope you're all enjoying a lovely and lazy Friday.

So, I think this is the swan song for ye olde MKM blog.  Unless the CJ Squadron wants to keep it going, and they are more than welcome to do so,  I think I need a break, or at least a batch of new semi-topical Youtube clips I can append to these things.

It has been fun.  But as we move into a new era of Deadspin commenting, maybe it is time for a new venue for commenting about comments.

Love you all.  Except Phintastic, of course.

  1. A new venue?!? You think these blogs about Deadspin commenting just pop out of thin air?

  2. I (CJ, the non-deleter) am fairly committed to keeping this going. And me being "fairly committed" is like, laser-locked and stuff. Or I could start a new balog; "IMG Is The Ultimate Quitter" has a nice ring to it. But seriously, thank you for your service, IMG. Provide some feedback below, kids. Thanks.

I rarely comment, but I do enjoy this place, and your efforts would be much appreciated.

    2. I know we were born to be here again
In the kind of love that you die for
      Somethin' in the innocent wind's
      Been callin' out to me
      Over 'n over
I would build a castle upon our dreams
or leave it al behind us in ashes
Just to feel your heart in my heart
      A promise and a prayer
      To lead 'n to follow
      Voices that call
      From an ancient dream
Remind me of a world I've never known
      We are the bridge
      We are the fire
'N I burn in a river of love

On second thought, you should probably shut it down.

    5. You should probably keep it going. Otherwise, Twitter will turn into nothing but comment discussion and inside baseball.

Ah, fuck it. Do whatever you want.

  3. keep it going!

I do like that IMG knows that he'll be too high tomorrow morning to post an open thread, so he's quitting now.

    1. Ahem.

Hey, you've earned the time away. Nice work, IronMike.

    2. Thanks, man. Is there a popular retirement hangout for meta-Deadspin bloggers?

    4. I can usually be found in the tree next to Gamboa's house, although there's still no sign of StreetCheese or Substitute Bastard.

    5. The funniest part of that image is picturing a tiny tree next to the cardboard box.

  5. This is like my high school graduation week all over again. I've been looking through all the old comments, listening to "Good Riddance" by Green Day and discussing the merits of meta-discourse, all while trying to turn a sad moment into a handy from a girl I once talked to in algebra class.

We'll still be friends, guys, right? Right?

    3. Oh yeah it does - UEA likes to universally envelop things, that's for sure.

    4. It's okay Gamboa, you won't use algebra in real life anyway.

  6. So long, and thanks for all the anonymous backstabbing and fake names.

  7. I really thought that this was solid. Too subtle or not as clever as I thought?

I'm assuming we're just going to use this last open thread over the next few months...right?

  8. Seriously, +100 to you, IMG, for doing this balog for this long.

  9. Swan song? Geez it seems like this whole thing was just launched. I'll never forget that one time that guy wrote about what he thought made for a good Deadspin comment and then that other guy disagreed and then that other guy made a humorous observation about their squabble.

See you all in hell. Or, as I call it, the new musical version of "Leap Of Faith."

    XOXO,
    MKM
