Holy Potential Plagiarism, Batman! Report

I really want to believe this is an unfortunate coincidence coming from a former Deadspin editor and all, but where have you seen this before?

I just have a lot of trouble believing that could have happened by accident and with zero attribution.

  1. I saw that earlier. Thing is, I got there from Sean linking it through Twitter. I don't know if it was a subtle hint at what you're getting at or not. At first I thought they just re-posted his stuff. But that's not the case.

    1. Nope. That's what i have trouble with. If he'd cited Sean's work, that would be awesome, but it's passed off as an original concept.

  2. Not trying to be a dick, just legitimately asking: is the plagiarism that Rick Chandler also transposed Jose's garbled mess of a tweet about polar bears onto a picture of polar bears? Is there something else?

    1. It's the whole recontextualizing Jose's tweets as poster slogans, which is clearly Sean's invention, and a fairly unlikely and creative one at that. That it "just occurred" to Chandler, a former Deadspin editor who presumably still reads the site, strikes me as a bit of a longshot. Is it possible? I guess, but the timing and similarity is striking. I mean there are so many other ways to mock Jose's tweets without making them slogans on posters.

    2. The Deadspin connection does make you wonder, I suppose. I don't think it's totally unlikely for two guys to hit on that though. Don't get me wrong, it's funny, but it's essentially someone else's words (Jose's) + a well-worn meme (demotivational posters). Found art is still art, but if I were Sean I don't think my feathers would get ruffled over it.
