No one gives a shit about my opinion

But I'll just come out and say that - in my meaningless opinion only - Tommy should have spiked that piece of shit EA piece of racist idiotic xenophobic garbage that just went up. Forget Erin Andrews, Brett Favre, or any of Tim Burke's work, this is the first Deadspin piece I can recall that I strongly feel should not have been published. You just know that pathetic fucking insignificant piece of shit is high-fiving his imaginary friends right now over getting his racist trolling published on Deadspin, and the pink commenters who are loving it are going to be just the sort of voices we want to add to Powwow.

This was fucked up.

Bye!

  1. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree 100% with IMG.

I couldn't believe what I was reading. I was this close to posting a "Hey, guys look -- I made fun of Indian people" comment, but backed out, and now I just saw this.

    1. Shit, I really thought I was in the right on this one.

    2. The only other I remember is a post where Drew was send someone's medical records with the names and identifiers blocked out. I think it was meant as a "WORKING WITH THE MENTALLY HANDICAPPED CAN BE CRAZY!" post, but it came across as "LET'S READ AND MOCK THIS HANDICAPPED GUYS PRIVATE MEDICAL RECORDS!".

It was quickly removed and never appeared again. While this one is obviously less ethically questionable...I wouldn't be surprised to see it removed.

I'm not sure who's side I'm supposed to be on but I know I left that post disappointed with everyone involved except for Manish.

Manish's ability to keep his composure after such blatant disrespect is remarkable.

  2. I feel like this post was more an indictment EA by way of horrid customer service thru no fault of the poor guy on he other end being asked -- again, through no fault of his own -- to troubleshoot complex problems he's not fit to troubleshoot. It'd be like you or me working for minimum wage at a fast food restaurant in Moscow, and being asked how the Уважаемый лидер гуляш is being prepared today. It's just not fair.

I think if the tenor of the post was more sided that way, as opposed to "hey check out this funny Indian guy," I'd be more accepting of it.

  3. I love Deadspin's informative and funny writers, and they mostly do excellent work. But this "story" (and other stuff, see: "I-Team") is just awful.

  4. Two things:

    1) first, that should say "high-fiving" not "high giving." thanks iPhone.

    2) the title: a "frustrating" conversation with EA tech support is beyond the pale. It suggests we should identify with the racist asshole's frustration. I am "frustrated" with Deadspin right now

Yeah, the title and it's implied sympathies is really what makes the story so bad , but it still makes you wonder why the hell they chose to give this guy a voice on the site. Maybe they're trying to reach out to the xenophobes.

    2. If the goal is traffic for comments, go visit Yahoo, or YouTube, or any other heavily trafficked site. Don't get me wrong: I would never ascribe such a cynical motive to Tommy or even Denton. This just strikes me as a massive fucking lapse in judgment.

I wasn't being serious with that comment, it just seems like the only logical rationale considering that this type of post is well beyond the pale on Deadspin.

    4. I feel like it's more likely it just slipped through without much though, as opposed to be run despite misgivings in a pursuit of views. If you remove the headline, the post is pretty strongly anti-Mr. King. Although I agree with IMG that it's better to just not run it all.

The title and slant of it all is what most perturbs me as well. It's so damn tone-deaf; this is the kind of ignorance that Deadspin usually--and rightly--rips apart. How does the site run the "lax bro" thing from yesterday and then this trash today? As you said, picturing this fucking idiot laughing it up with his fucking idiot lackeys is positively infuriating.

      -1, Deadspin.

    6. UPDATE: Tommy changed the title so that frustrating now just refers to the gamer subjectively and not all of us by osmosis. That's an improvement, but it does bring the old polishing a turd expression to mind.

Until you posted this IMG, I didn't even read the DS post. I assumed the comments would be a cesspool of Apu Nahasapeemapetilon references.
Yeesh... Tommy better be in a coma, but that's the only valid excuse for letting this run.

    1. Are you saying it's coincidence that Manish was the person who developed the first punch-card-operated Tic-Tac-Toe software?

  7. I completely agree, IMG.

There is no story here other than "Racist asshole anonymously mocks foreign customer service representative." This should never have run on Deadspin.

  8. It just needs a rewrite and a new title. Seriously, if it had been posted as "Worst Piece of Shit in History Easily Outclassed by Indian Tech Dude" with opening and closing paragraphs that were unambiguously hostile toward that dickless asshole, I would have no problem with the post at all. The conversation is outrageous enough to warrant a glance.

To me, the error here would be akin to posting that earlier phone message under a title like "Daughter Who Totally Has It Coming Royally Pwned by Righteous, Heroic Mother With Whom We Can All Easily Relate".

Like a lot of you, most of what bothers me is the notion that any reasonable, intelligent human would feel empathy for such a total fucking low-life, and the festering idea that he's fist-bumping his bros over his new internet celebrity. Both of those problems would be remedied if the piece and title had taken an appropriate tone.
