  1. I don't get this post. If it's so bad, why didn't you just edit it and capitalize the 'y'?

    1. Good call. I thought he was upset about Gamboa's lack of spacing. Completely missed his gaffe.

    2. Editing something to enhance the Y is how we ended up with Chaz Bono on Dancing With The Stars.

  2. On a related topic... maybe it's the former wannabe-guitar hero, but I like riffing. But I think I have a let's-start-a-pyramid problem. (See: that same post.)

Is the problem with me, or with the queer-os who refuse to jam with me? (As always, my money's on the queer-os.)

  3. You know that's how Pattie Boyd used to dirty talk Eric Clapton, right?

  4. His actual "joke" wasn't even close to In Re Hightower's either. He also dropped a doozie in a different thread about 15 minutes earlier.

  5. How bad does someone have to be to get their neck snapped? Don't the ninjas read this blog to find out who needs to go?!?!? Aren't we IMPORTANT?!??!?!

  6. Question: I know some folks think that responding to a great comment with a different take on the comment or a humorous response is against good commenting etiquette, but... is that an axiom?

I had a reply to StF's great comment in the hockey post that was a bit silly, but not meant to "show up" his comment. Was that okay with you StF? Was it in poor form? What's the rule here folks?

(Note: I don't really read the posts on this site - sorry IMG)

    1. Not poor form at all, in my opinion. See, call me a reactionary, call me an Egyptian... but I kinda miss big-ass pyramids.

    2. My opinion only, but I have no problem with it. Some of my favorite comments ever end up as pyramids.

Let's distinguish that, or any clever funny insightful reply, to the shit Vancoq puked out. It wasn't funny, it wasn't clever, it didn't exist for any reason other than to take credit for in re Hightower's excellent joke. Not only was it poor form - stepping on someone else's joke, trying to say he thought of it first - it's actually a violation of the one rule. A funny reply that's related to the original comment does neither of those things.

But, and this is just me, if the reply can be repackaged as a comment which can stand on its own, I'd generally opt for that, just because it avoids any risk of stepping on toes and it probably deserves its own spot anyway.

This gent Vanqoc, methinks, falls short of clutching the Deadspin ETHOS. Towit, his rubish quasi-"comments" declare a level of comprehensiveness far submerged beneath a Libation of Selection or a Morose Reverberation. Dare I say I see a silhouette of one, or, as it may happen, several ninjas lingaring in wait to receive the primary optoin of bringing this fellow's head far away from the corpus of his body once and (hopefully, but who's to say in the pink purgatory) for all? I would like to think I speak for the starred Spinners as well as my self, but on a spectrum from the infamous RUBE all the way up to one of our white-hottest lumanaires such as Theodore, the Donald himself, Karabotskis, we all know that your departed friend Conspiracy lies toward the lefternmost point on that hallowed spectrum. Alas, ask not if the bell tolls for thee, Vanqoc: IT DOES.

  8. So SavetoFavorites, you know The Third Man well enough to know the main character's name, but not the most famous quote from the movie!?!?!

No hard feelings. I don't think anyone got either of our jokes anyway.

  9. Is this comment as racist as I think it is:

  13. OK I'm just getting here, but I'm glad someone drew attention to this. I almost went after this guy earlier in the day for this one:

Maybe if I had, we'd have been spared his ensuing horseshittery for the rest of the day, but I figured I haven't been making regular enough positive contributions lately for it to be fair.

Related: is it wrong how much I LOVE fucking with bad comments in better times? I feel like there's something of an art to ripping someone to shreds without stepping too hard on ninja's toes. I can't be alone here.

    2. It's a delicate ballet, unless you do it here, in which case just have at it. I try to avoid street justice on Deadspin, but there have been one or two shockingly racist comments that I couldn't hold my tongue over.

    3. I always figure if the smackdown is funny in its own right, it's usually OK. It depends on the situation I guess. I took the one I linked personally, because my own first widely lauded comment on here was doing something similar with one of Drew's posts. But I'd like to think made sense (as I recall) and was years ago when the, shall we say, different hue of the comment section on any Drew post wasn't just inherently assumed.

    4. The ninja has said that if you rip on another comment, you had better make it funny. I've seen some great stuff, but I think opening that door even a crack invites a lot of shit we all could do without. I generally steer clear or send a snide email to my mom about it.

    5. IMG this is your mom. Are you still writing that balog? Why don't you apply yourself a bit more like your older brother? You're so smart, Mike, you can do it.

Also, while I have your attention, can you get me Same Sad Echo's phone number? He's sexy. Also also, before I go out on a date with Senor Echo, can you help me get this cone out of my vagina? I want to be free for the 'Cho (he asks me to call him that)

  16. Come on guys, he's actually a really funny guy, if you go back through his history, you'll find that he's made at least 5 or 6 good jokes. He's part of the gang and people seem to like him, so that should be enough right there.
