MKM Open Thread (Mar. 7, 2012)

Welcome to your MKM Blog open thread for March 7, 2012, the day you briefly got all excited about Peyton Manning being released and maybe coming to your team, which is sort of like the way you felt the time you heard Katy Perry was getting divorced and you thought that maybe she'd finally read all your letters.


Good morning everyone, and a happy new iPad day to you.  Be sure to check out all of Gizmodo's continuing coverage, and all the great comments they make over there.  You could learn a thing or two from them.

So, a few notes on the tournament of commenters I mentioned the other day.  I'm still working out the details, but I do want to clarify one thing.  It will not be a commenter ranking exercise.  It will be a comment competition.  Frankly, there's no good way to ask who is funnier, Steve_U or AzureTexan.  They're both great, and they're both funnier than you (unless you are Steve_U or AzureTexan, in which case they are exactly as funny as you).  Plus, I'm pretty sure that back in the pre-IMG Deadspin era, there already as something like that, and it obviously has not succeeded in settling the dispute.  So, instead, my idea is for this tournament to be about specific comments.  I feel like there's less chance of that devolving into a popularity contest and less risk of someone feeling left out or hurt that their #463 seeding places puts them right between lauren_jo and Bullet Tooth Tony.  (Kidding!  Those two would be much lower than the 460s.)  A straight comment competition is purer, more in keeping with the spirit of Deadspin, and frankly a lot easier for me to administer.

      Obviously it's not a good one, but I think there was a kernel of a joke in there somewhere at the very least.

      I was under the impression that the list was indeed a ranking and that Dave R's inclusion at the bottom (along with the other bottom dwellers) was the poster's way of saying 'these people are not good'

      Ahhh...makes sense. I missed that...can't watch any streaming video while at work.

      So if you ever notice a comment on a video from me that doesn't make sense...that's because I'm guessing what's in the video. Actually, this blog is blocked for me at work as well.
