MKMOT (June 8, 2012)

Special thanks to CJ for holding it down yesterday.

Look, I wasn't trying to make some grand, dramatic statement about the demise of our little balog. I just acknowledge that it isn't MBA quality, and I wasn't sure if there would be demand for it now that the Roundups are back over there (til Tuesday). I'm not delusional. I might as well be named "Guy Who Has Perfect Combination Of Insomnia And Inept Personal Life To Puke Out Horrible Intros Every Day", if only it fit with the Buffalo Bills theme. Point being, once again, I do this for you. What is up here doesn't matter. What is down there does. If you continue to show that this place serves a purpose for you, I will continue to be happy to have you. If not, I will fade away gracefully and enjoy the extra time to spend with my beloved toys and figurines.

If memory serves, this is where I put a video that is either cool, funny, or a failed attempt at either, and remind you to share your thoughts below it. Posted, reminded, bring it. It's open.

  1. Marv,

Phil Balollins here. I'm a big fan, and really appreciate what it is you do for the balogging community. I know you were having your existential crisis yesterday, so I thought I'd lend a helping hand and take the burden of music and entertainment off of your shoulders for the day. You can sit back and leave this one to the pros. Take it easy out there buddy, you've earned it.

There's this change that's been on my mind
We'll be fine, S-S-Stars will go oh oh
Denton don't even know our game
But he's going to treat us just the same
    S-S-Stars will go oh oh

Oh Skeevy told us he'd be there
    Sitehawk made him awfully scared
We'd all agree, balogs are nice
I wish Nick knew that not all change is good
S-S-Stars will go, he shouldn't change our world
    Oh S-S-Stars will go

Now you know I'm having fun
    My songs have just begun
    S-S-Stars will go oh oh
Ooh give me a chance, give it some time
I think that we'll be fine
    S-S-Stars will go oh oh

Ah, Ray will change his ava-, av-a-tar
I'm thinkin' that most of us will do it somehow
They will taunt us by saying "circle-jerk"
But our stars will shine, and we'll light up the world
S-S-Stars will go and we'll light up the world
    Oh S-S-Stars will go, oh

Ah, they can't toggle pics, that's all right
I feel so good we're lighting up the world
S-S-Stars will go, we still light up the world
Oh S-S-Stars will go, we still light up the world
Oh S-S-Stars will go, we still light up the world
S-S-Stars will go oh oh oh
We still light up the world

  2. Breaking News: My sources tell me sarcasm is becoming increasingly difficult to detect on the intertubes.

/Seriously though, some pretty great Pink commentary here. Especially the fried chicken crack.

    1. This goes back to the whole "reply ethics" debate.

      My position has only strengthened.

    2. So Gamboa, you been doing your Kegel exercises again?

    3. Look, I'm not saying this is my best joke, or even a good joke, but this seems to be DUANBowe's M.O.

  5. Okay, I'll just ask: what the hell did Scotchnaut just do in the Kraft thread? Is it a joke I'm missing?

    1. I noticed it too. Since you posted this I've gave it a few more reads. I'm stumped as well.

    2. Apparently I was fucking up like nobody's business. Don't ask me what I was going for 'cause I don't know.

  6. Am I the only person who cringes every time I read the word 'retarded'?

I don't have any handicapped family members, or anything like that. But I suppose having worked in the medical field makes me more sensitive to a term with such an ugly healthcare history.

    1. Nope...I cringe too. There was one comment yesterday in the Boston Mayor thread that was just terrible for 1) for using the word retarded, 2) for being an awful comment, and 3) leading to an awful "discussion". Powwow indeed!

    4. @Algebra,

Sorry, I got out golfing this afternoon and couldn't respond. That came across as directed toward you which was not my intention. Just a general observation I've noted numerous times before and hadn't spoken up about yet.

  11. Joke Workshop:

So, I was happy with the response that this silly gag got in the Trent Williams post, but I struggled with how to put it together. I was basically choosing between the parenthetical and turning it into a picture joke. I don't think I have ever done a picture joke well - the degree of difficulty is pretty high, I think.

But I am reminded of TDK's tremendous Nate Robinson joke from a while back. Granted, he came up with that image himself, but the point is that they can be very effective. So, question: would my joke have been better or worse if I had attached a funny picture of fruit in a kitchen?

    1. I struggle with that too. I did that in the Kraft thread earlier, and wasn't sure whether or not to make it obvious that there was more to the joke, post the picture in the joke, put ... , so I just buried in the reply.

It had the desired effect on Maverick but apparently nobody else bothered to click on the reply, or else didn't think it was funny. Either way, it pretty much failed.

    2. No, it worked well without the picture. A great stupid joke. I was going to +1 it but was distracted by something shiny, and now it's too late, of course.

    3. Personal opinion...much better without the picture.

    4. @PARS

My inclination if I were you would have been to post the picture in the first comment instead of the reply, but I do definitely understand the reservations about posting that terrifying photo.

      @Echo and SbV8

Thanks, gentlemen. I think the takeaway is that even when a picture seems appropriate and makes you laugh, it doesn't always come off as well as you like. Appreciate the input. Also, I couldn't find a funny picture of fruit anyway.
