MKMOT/50 Days of HATE- Day 11 (September 21, 2012)

The HATE is consuming me yet again. You're not helping by cowering in the corner and sneaking out while I'm not looking to throw your CDs in the trash underneath your soiled undies. ADMIT YOUR FLAWS!!! DO I SCARE YOU??? THAT IS NOT MY INTENT!!! Someone likes this shit. Sheer numerical logic tells me it's at least one of you. SHOW YOURSELF! A balog without dissent is a balog that will not stand.

GAAAAHHHHH.... I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!! MUSICAL PALATE CLEANSER!

That helped, but respite is temporary. More like Brimful of Ass, Uhh..., amirite??? Speak up, Guys Who Are Tone Deaf!

It's open.

  1. Oh, Marv. Marv Marv Marv Marv Marv Marv Marv. For shame. And we agreed so much on yesterday's Lenny (more like) Krapitz (amirite?) selection! I've got nothing but LOVE for today's choice.

/happily whistles the rest of the day

    1. @Ray Remember when we had that PM discussion about King of Wishful thinking? [note to everyone: this actually happened]

    2. Wow. I'm actually in the same demographic as Ray on this one. Frightening.

    3. You guys are likely too young-- Cornershop was a little bit of a mid-'90s college-radio thing; "Brimful" was the one song that got MTV airplay.

Ray? Well, it's a shame about Raysism.

    4. I'm in the same boat (something something Rudderless, StF). I have no idea what this song is, and I'm probably not going to listen to it. But I'm 32 and remember all of this mid-90s college-radio music. So how this one slipped by me I have no idea

    5. I'll tell myself I'm over Uwe, because I'm the King of Rational Thinking.

  4. I really have no ill will toward this song. It's like elevator muzak to me. Though, I do seem to remember that when it came out, there were many people lumping this band in with Blur and The Dandy Worhols, who had also just started to taste success in America at the time, which, LOL. C'mon.

    1. I was in London right about the time Madchester beats were ruling the world ('92), and I think all of us expatriate students at the time recognized that Blur was going to be head of the pack, over the Happy Mondays, The Farm, the Soup Dragons, the Charlatans UK, etc. Unfortunately, Radiohead started up about a year or so after that.

    2. TRUE, UNBELIEVABLE FACT: Shaun Ryder is alive, and relatively healthy.

    3. The Stone Roses are awesome.

This is my opinion, and I'm sharing it here for you to read.

    4. Yeah, I consider the Stone Roses' 2+ albums to be on another level entirely, rising above both the Jesus and Mary Chain which preceded it and the Madchester stuff that followed it. Another underrated band from that period was The La's, mainly because everybody hooked into "There She Goes" while missing some of the harder-rockin' stuff on their (only?) album.

    5. I was more making the point of how people seemed to lump stuff together into neat little musical packages in the late 90's. Much like Cornershop was lumped in with Blur and the Warhols as the kind of "rebel" side of the Semisonics/Third Eye Blinds/Wallflowers of the time. But, hell, if you want to discuss Britpop, I'm all for it.

      1.) The Stone Roses...by a mile
      2.) Everyone else

    6. That one La's album is fantastic. And fuck people who hate "Second Coming". It's a great album.

    7. @Uwe

Any mention of Second Coming automatically reminds me of this

  5. [wakes up on a beautiful Friday morning]
[searches through iPod for an upbeat song to start the day with]
[scrolls through his vast collection of Cornershop classics]
[smiles as he comes to the critically acclaimed Brimful of Asha and selects play]
[starts to snap fingers and bob head to the groovy soothing tune]
[begins to think back on the rich history of Indian film culture and the legendary Indian pop singer/film-score vocalists, Asha Bhosle, for who this song is a tribute to]
[decides that nothing can ruin the great mood he is in and reluctantly logs onto Marv’s balog]
[goes right past Marv’s unjustifiable offensive hate speech to see what song was the unfortunate victim of Marv’s ignorance today]
[is instantly dumbfounded as his blood begins to boil]
[turns his attention back to the warm comforting ditty playing on his iPod]
[instinctively continues to snap fingers and bob head and goes on about his wonderful Friday morning]

THAT’S how great this song is.

    1. See, that song wasn't horrible at all. Which does absolutely nothing to invalidate today's selection.

  7. This is the first time I've actually liked a song on the hate list. I'm still completely lost as to what the hell "Brimful of Asha on the 45" means.

    1. 45 is the size of a single song on vinyl.

Guess I'm old since I had 45s as a wee Phin.

    2. And Asha referred to a lady who did something like thousands of songs for Bollywood (the actors lip synched over her track).

Alright, hotshot, what is a "busom"?

    4. British slang for "case of herpes."

    5. I'm pretty sure it means, "large, fast-moving paddleboat." Like, "I was going to just put Dick in her bosom, but as I had the time, I took a Cleveland steamer instead."

  8. Marv, did you confuse this for OMC's How Bizzare? Because that song is kind of grating. This one is kind of a bitching toe-tapper.

    2. No confusion, but good call. I HATE that one equally.

So I leave my office to get lunch on this beautiful Friday afternoon, and I see a group of middle-aged, balding, overweight gentlemen in a variety of jerseys and hats waiting outside a hotel lobby, with a bus parked in the front. I asked what they were waiting for, and it turns out the bus was for the Oakland Athletics, who would shortly be checking into the hotel. The men were waiting there with note pads, baseballs, and other memorabilia. It was quite the sight.

So, in sum, for those of you who have never met him in person, IMG is a real swell guy.
